Motorway petrol money scam warning
Fraudsters are attempting to con motorway drivers out of money by flagging them down and claiming they have run out of petrol.
West Yorkshire Police have urged motorists to be aware of the scam after a spate of incidents on the M62.
On Sunday a man was reported to police after he stopped several cars coming off the motorway at Ainley Top, near Huddersfield and asked for money.
Similar incidents at Junctions 28 and 24 have also been reported.
Insp Christopher Norbury said: "Stopping on any part of the motorway network is extremely dangerous and our advice would be to only do this in an emergency.
''The fact that people have stopped to help another stranded motorist shows how publicly spirited people are, which is a nice thing to see at this time of year, but our advice is not to stop and leave it to the police and our partners to deal with."
