Two teenagers have been arrested after a machete attack left a 16-year-old girl with serious facial injuries.

She was hit in the face with the weapon on Monday night in Lingfield Drive, Moortown, Leeds, after being involved in an earlier fight, police said.

The girl remains at Leeds General Infirmary in a stable condition.

Two 17-year-old boys were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the attack. One was released on bail and the other is in custody.

A 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl who were arrested on Monday have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Insp Sean Duggan, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "This was clearly a very serious assault on a teenage girl who has received significant injuries.

"This appears to have been a targeted attack that may have resulted from an earlier fight involving the victim and another girl."
