Youth seriously hurt in Huddersfield 'machete-type' attack

A 17-year-old has been seriously injured after he was attacked with a "machete-type" weapon, West Yorkshire Police said.

The youth received a serious hand injury in the attack near Arnold Street, in Birkby, Huddersfield on Saturday.

He received treatment at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and police were alerted at about 18.30 BST.

Det Con Paul Morrison said: "This was a very serious assault with a weapon."

The force said the victim could be left with "life-changing injuries" following the attack.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition.
