Roundhay Park: Woman's body found in Waterloo Lake

A woman's body has been found in the lake of a popular park in Leeds.

Police were called to Waterloo Lake in Roundhay Park at about 09:20 BST after a man who was out jogging spotted the woman in the water near to the Lakeside Cafe.

The body was recovered by the fire service and the scene was cordoned off.

Det Insp James Entwistle said he believed the woman had "entered the water some time between last night and this morning".

"We are carrying out inquiries to establish the woman's identity and the circumstances surrounding her death," he added.

"She appears to be around 50-years-old and was wearing a black and green dress and a dark blue coat. She has dark greying hair and was wearing glasses." 

A post-mortem examination is due to be held on Wednesday.
