Man, 60, hurt in Leicester street assault

A 60-year-old Leicester man is being treated in hospital after being injured during an attempted robbery.

The victim was walking along Hinckley Road in the early hours of Sunday when two men pushed him to the ground, demanded valuables and assaulted him.

Police said the man suffered multiple injuries, including three broken ribs.

Officers have appealed for witnesses, saying the road was fairly busy despite the time of the attack. Two men have been arrested and released on bail.

The victim, police said, remains in hospital under observation.
