Armed gang target Kibworth cash delivery

Four men have attacked and robbed two security guards delivering cash to a Leicestershire food shop.

Police were called to the Co-op store on High Street, Kibworth, at about 1100 BST on Friday.

The offenders, who had a crowbar, escaped with a "substantial amount of cash". No one was seriously injured.

Police said the attackers left in a silver VW Golf which had false number plates. It was stolen from Franche Road, Leicester, on 15 October.

The men abandoned the golf in Melbourne Close, Kibworth, and are believed to have driven off in a silver or grey Ford Mondeo or VW Passat.

Det Sgt Peter Wheeler, of Leicestershire Police, said: "This was a carefully planned attack by a group of men who were prepared to use force to make off with a substantial amount of cash.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident at the Co-op, the exchange of cars or who saw the VW Golf over the past week."
