Passenger killed in crash in Humberstone

A 64-year-old woman died when the car she was a passenger in collided with another vehicle in Leicestershire.

The crash happened in Colchester Road in Humberstone at the junction with Elmcroft Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Valerie Dunkley, of Leicester, was a passenger in a Rover Metro which collided with a Porsche Carrera. She died at the scene, police said.

The Rover driver was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he remained in a serious condition.

The male driver of the Porsche was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Det Con Rob Lapworth said: "The Porsche was travelling southbound along Colchester Road towards the A47 Uppingham Road and the Rover was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

"I would appeal to anyone who was travelling along these roads yesterday afternoon to contact us if they witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand. Any information, no matter how small, could help us with our investigation."
