Victoria Park health centre scheme approved
Plans for a new health centre next to a Leicester park have been approved.
The £2.3m facility will be built on Victoria Park Road to replace the Freemen's Common Health Centre.
Campaigners had claimed the scheme would rob the area of valuable green space but officials insisted there were no other suitable sites.
Private developer Assura, which is working with NHS Leicester, said it hoped to begin construction in the middle of 2011.
The firm, which specialises in building primary care facilities in partnership with the NHS, said a replacement for Freemen's Common had been sought for more than 10 years.
Construction is expected to take up to a year.
