Man arrested after pedestrian killed in Leicestershire

A 72-year-old man has been arrested after a pedestrian was killed when she was struck by a car on a Leicestershire road.

The accident happened on the A607 Melton Road near its junction with Alderton Close at about 1620 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said it is thought the woman, in her 80s, was crossing the road when she was hit by a Ford Ka.

Several roads were closed and diversions put in place.

Det Con Nick Bryan from Leicestershire Constabulary said: "We'd like to hear from anyone who was driving or walking along the Troon Way end of Melton Road just before half past four on Tuesday afternoon and saw what happened."
