M1 motorway in Leicestershire resurfacing set to start

A scheme to resurface a stretch of the southbound carriageway of the M1 in part of Leicestershire is due to start.

The work near junction 22 at Markfield, which will only be carried out at night when traffic flows are lightest, will begin on Monday.

The Highways Agency said resurfacing of the one-mile stretch of carriageway is expected to be completed by 25 January.

The southbound entry slip road at junction 22 will be closed and traffic diverted along the A50 and A46.

Mark Braithwaite, Highways Agency project manager, said: "The Highways Agency is committed to minimising delays when carrying out road improvements.

"This resurfacing work will ensure the carriageway is maintained in good condition and will improve safety for road users."
