Body found in Leicester canal is missing city man

A body found in a canal in Leicester is that of a 68-year-old man who has been missing for more than six weeks, police have confirmed.

Arthur Prosser was last seen when he left his home on Saxon Street in Leicester at about 1030 GMT on Friday 3 December.

Divers searched a stretch of the Grand Union Canal in Leicester.

Mr Prosser's body was discovered just before 1200 GMT on Wednesday in the water near to Eastern Boulevard.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned at Leicester Coroner's Court.
