Residents' turbine blimp protest in Asfordby

Campaigners opposing a windfarm at a former mine in Leicestershire have used a blimp to show the height of the proposed 125m (394 ft) turbines.

Residents living near Asfordby in Leicestershire said the nine turbines proposed by the energy firm Peel Energy were "too big and too close".

Peel spokesman Patrick Keogh said the turbines were no different to others around the UK

Melton Borough Council will decide on the proposal at the end of March.

Campaigner Ruth North said: "One of the big purposes of the blimp is to let as many people seeā€¦ how this might sit in the landscape and it really shows the height people might be looking at."

Emma Musson, who lives nearby, said: "Our concerns as residents are that it is too big and too close - some of the homes are as close as 600m (1,968 ft) away from the turbines."

Mr Keogh said the firm had discussed the impact of the project with protesters and reduced the height of one of the proposed turbines as a result.
