Braunstone underpass acts of indecency linked by police

Two "acts of indecency" on women using underpasses on the same Leicestershire road are being linked by police.

On 10 March, a 22-year-old on Narborough Road South, Braunstone, near to the Kingsway junction, was touched by a man who also tried to kiss her.

A week later, a 17-year-old was using the underpass near Gwencole Crescent when she was approached and touched.

Police said they believed the women may have been followed after getting off a bus from Leicester.

'Very distressing'

Extra patrols have been put on in the area but women have been advised to walk in groups if possible.

Detectives said they have linked the cases due to the location and similar descriptions.

The suspect is described as Asian, about 5ft 9ins (1.75m) tall, of slim to medium build and aged 30 to 40.

Det Con Nick Freeman said: "While no-one has actually been harmed in these incidents they are naturally very distressing for the victims involved.

"The last thing we want to do is alarm people but we've had these two very similar reports which is naturally very concerning.

"We hope that by alerting people, in particular lone females, to these incidents it will make them extra vigilant when walking out alone."
