Charnwood residents' crime fears are calmed

Police and council officers said they have visited every resident of a Leicestershire street to calm their fears about anti-social behaviour.

Residents of Rendell Street in Loughborough submitted a petition in December to Charnwood Borough Council, wanting CCTV cameras to be installed.

Police patrols have been stepped up since the residents raised concerns about drug-related crime.

Eighteen crimes were recorded in Rendell Street in 2010, police said.

"We have been made aware of these issues and we have worked hard with our partners and local residents to find a solution to the problems in the Rendell Street area," said Sgt Jamie Osborne from Leicestershire Police.

"Since this work began, residents have told us they are happier in the area and we will continue to address problems in the area as they arise."
