Nine arrested in Leicester trafficking raids

Police investigating allegations of people trafficking and forced prostitution have arrested nine people in Leicester.

The six men and three women were taken for questioning after raids at properties in Shirley Street, Loughborough Road and Saffron Road.

Officers are now conducting searches at the addresses.

Leicestershire Police said specialist officers had also been deployed to support victims.

Two men, aged 23 and 58, and a 24-year-old woman were arrested at the raid in Shirley Street.

'Early stages'

In Loughborough Road, three men, aged 24, 25 and 28, and two women, aged 24 and 29, were taken into custody.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the property on Saffron Road.

Det Ch Insp Chris Baker said: "The operation has been extremely successful due to the planning that has gone in to it.

"The investigation is still in its early stages and specialist officers have been deployed to support victims.

"We have treated this case with the utmost seriousness and will ensure that no stone is left unturned to bring the offenders to justice."
