Leicester arson attack pub to be demolished

A Leicester pub destroyed in an arson attack is set to be demolished.

The Invincible in Sturdee Road, Eyres Monsell, which had been empty for a number of years, was wrecked in the early hours of Wednesday.

Owner M F Strawson Ltd has now confirmed a demolition contractor had been appointed.

Residents said they hoped removing the building, which had been the subject of complaints, would bring forward a long-planned shopping centre.

Fencing should be set up within days and demolition is due to start in about three weeks.

Rory Palmer, Labour Councillor for Eyres Monsell, said: "We have been working to make this happen. Of course it is an eyesore, that is why we want to get rid of it.

"We have been working with residents to do that and soon we will have a fantastic new shopping centre opening, which is a great investment."
