Police investigating a serious sexual assault in Loughborough have released CCTV images of potential witnesses.

The 19-year-old victim was threatened with what is believed to be a handgun during the attack near Loughborough hospital on Saturday 19 February.

The woman was walking in an alley on Rosebery Way at about 2245 GMT when she was grabbed from behind, dragged into a nearby park and assaulted.

Her attacker is described as white and in his late teens to early 20s.

He was about 5ft 8ins to 6ft (1.5-1.8 metres) tall and was wearing a black zip-fronted hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.

'Covered in mud'

Police are trying to trace anyone who was in the area on the evening of 19 February and have released images of several people caught on CCTV near the park.

Det Ch Insp Neil Castle, of Leicestershire Police, said: "We know all of these people were out and about in the area around the time of the incident and it is vitally important that we trace them.

"I would appeal to parents, partners, friends or other family members to take a good look at the footage and think back to the night of February 19. Did someone you know come home agitated or had their clothing, in particular their shoes and trousers, covered in mud?

"This has been an extremely distressing and upsetting incident for the victim and I would say to anyone who is concerned about getting in touch to please think about what the victim has been, and is, going through."
