Man injured in Hinckley supermarket raid

A man has been assaulted with a hammer during a robbery at a Leicestershire supermarket.

Three men went into the Tesco store on London Road, Hinckley, late on Tuesday and told staff and customers to get on the floor.

They took about £700 in cash and a large quantity of cigarettes. The victim suffered head injuries.

A fourth man drove the suspects away in a silver Subaru Impreza, which was later found on fire nearby.

The injured man is being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

All three men were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. One of the men was described by a witness as having a dark skin tone.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses.
