Cossington Park problems tackled by police

Warning letters, banning orders and extra patrols have been used to tackle problem behaviour in a Leicester park.

Residents near Cossington Park highlighted the issue to local police at a meeting earlier in the year.

Officers said groups of up to 20 had been gathering in the park with reports of drug use and minor criminal damage.

Eight letters have been sent to families, three people have been banned from a nearby library and four charged with offences in or near the park.

Insp Steve Riley said: "We have carried out plain clothes and high visibility uniformed operations in the area, and we are determined to continue tackling this issue.

"I have had a number of calls from residents in the area who have thanked us for the work we have done here so far."
