Leicester sports fans warned ahead of games

Sports fans in Leicester are being warned to allow extra time for their journeys when the city's rugby and football teams both play home games.

Both Leicester City FC and Leicester Tigers RFC will be holding home matches on Saturday 7 May with a total of about 48,000 people expected to attend.

Leicestershire Police said traffic flow would be heavy and parking spaces could be hard to find.

Visitors are being advised to use public transport to minimise delays.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said the timing of the two matches could not be changed because they each formed the final league fixture for the clubs.

The Leicester City versus Ipswich match is due to kick off at 1245 BST and should finish at about 1445 BST. It will be followed by a lap of appreciation by home players.

The Leicester Tigers versus London Irish match is due to kick off at 1500 BST and is expected to finish at about 1700 BST.
