Passenger killed in A47 crash in Leicestershire named

A man who died in a collision involving a lorry, a caravan and two cars on the A47 in Leicestershire has been identified by police.

The crash involved a Ford Mondeo estate, which was towing a caravan, a Renault Megane Scenic and a DAF lorry.

David Diaper, 44, of Whetstone, near Blaby in Leicestershire, who was a passenger in the Scenic, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at East Norton at about 2200 BST on Sunday.

Witness appeal

The woman driving the Scenic was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, where her condition was described as stable. A female passenger was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Mondeo was taken to Peterborough Hospital with serious injuries, where his condition has been described as critical.

His female passenger was "stable" in Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Con Seamus Burns said: "The Mondeo was towing a caravan and was travelling eastbound and the Megane and lorry were travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred."
