A second person dies following A47 Leicestershire crash

A second person has died following a collision involving a lorry, a caravan and two cars on the A47 in Leicestershire at the weekend.

The crash involved a Ford Mondeo estate, which was towing a caravan, a Renault Megane Scenic and a DAF lorry.

The driver of the Mondeo, David Turnock, 72, of Leicester, was taken to Peterborough Hospital with serious injuries and died on Tuesday.

The accident happened at East Norton at about 2200 BST on Sunday.

Witness appeal

David Diaper, 44, of Whetstone, near Blaby in Leicestershire, who was a passenger in the Renault Scenic, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman driving the Scenic was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, where her condition was described as stable. A female passenger was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and later discharged.

A female passenger in the Mondeo remains "critical but stable" in Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Con Seamus Burns said: "The Mondeo was towing a caravan and was travelling eastbound and the Megane and lorry were travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred."
