Immigration detainee found hanging in Leicester cell

An immigration detainee found hanging in his cell the day after his 21st birthday has died in hospital.

Riliwanu Balogan was on suicide watch when he was discovered in his cell at Glen Parva Young Offenders Institution in Leicester on 8 May.

He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but died on Monday.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation," a Prison Service spokesman said.

It is believed Mr Balogan was from Nigeria.
