Vehicles seized in Leicester safety drive

Police in Leicester have seized eight vehicles in a bid to improve safety on the city's roads.

The vehicles were confiscated because they were either uninsured or the drivers did not have valid licences.

A further 22 drivers were stopped for various offences including driving while using a mobile phone or speeding.

Supt Stu Prior from Leicestershire Police said the operation aimed to make "the city a safer place to work and live in".

Drivers of another eight vehicles were ordered to carry out work on their vehicles to bring them up to a roadworthy standard during the operation on Thursday.
