Leicestershire crash drivers over legal alcohol limit

Thirteen motorists in Leicestershire were caught drinking and driving in the first weekend of a police summer campaign.

Of those arrested, six were found to be over the legal alcohol limit at the scene of road traffic collisions.

It brings the number of arrests to 17 since the campaign - called Sober and Motoring (SAM) - began on 1 June.

Anyone caught drink driving faces a 12-month ban and up to six months in prison.

Insp Vivienne Brenchley said: "Drink driving can prove fatal. If you are planning a night out with friends, make sure you book a taxi home or get a lift back with someone sober.

"Don't accept lifts from strangers, ensure it is someone you know well such as a friend or a family member."
