Leicestershire drink-drivers: 100 arrests in 30 days

One hundred people have been arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving in a month-long Leicestershire Police campaign.

The Sober and Motoring (SAM) campaign across Leicestershire and Rutland began on 1 June and saw 13 people arrested in its first weekend alone.

Insp Vivienne Brenchley said she was "disappointed" with the results.

Those caught drinking and driving face a 12-month ban and up to six months in prison.

Insp Brenchley said: "We're obviously disappointed that so many people have chosen to risk their lives and the lives of others by drinking and driving.

"We do however feel pleased that we have removed the threat these people posed to the safety of law-abiding motorists."
