Leicestershire M1 motorway surface improvement to start

A scheme to improve road markings on a stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire is due to start.

The work to renew the road markings and studs will be carried out between junctions 21 and 22.

The improvements to both north and southbound carriageways of the 12-mile stretch will begin on 18 July and are expected to be completed by 8 August.

The Highways Agency said all work would be carried out overnight in order to minimise disruption to motorists.

Highways Agency project manager Mark Braithwaite said: "This essential scheme is to renew road markings and studs will improve the safety of the carriageway for road users.

"All work has been scheduled to take place outside of peak hours, although we would still advise motorists to plan their journeys accordingly."
