Leicestershire charity offices targeted by burglars

Thousands of pounds worth of equipment has been stolen from the offices of a Leicester-based charity.

Staff at Leicestershire Cares, which provides volunteers for community projects, discovered the break-in on Saturday morning.

Items taken from the Tower Street headquarters included computers, overhead projectors and gifts worth more than £3,000.

Police said they were studying CCTV and appealed for witnesses.

PC Mark Everest who is investigating the incident said: "The people who committed this crime have not just stolen from the charity but they have also affected those people the charity works with in the community.

"We're hoping that someone who was in the area between Friday night and Saturday morning who recalls seeing any suspicious activity, will give us a call."

The charity said the thefts would severely hamper its work.
