Fly-tippers targeted by police on A6 in Kibworth

Fly-tipping drivers have been targeted by a police operation on a major road in Leicestershire.

Lutterworth Police stopped 116 vehicles on the A6 in Kibworth during the four-and-a-half hour patrol on 8 August

The joint operation with Harborough District Council saw 11 drivers warned about transporting waste and others were made to prove they had permits.

The Vehicle Operating Standards Agency (Vosa) helped hand out fixed penalties and warnings for driving offences.

Sgt Steve Bunn said: "We are often told about issues involving the movement of waste and fly tipping and these operations are a good way of getting all the agencies in one place to get the job done.

"I was a little disappointed at the amount of vehicles which had defective tyres or those close to the legal limit."
