Police maintain extra patrols after Leicester trouble

Extra police patrols have seen another relatively quiet night in Leicestershire and Rutland.

The force said 19 people were arrested overnight but no major disturbances were reported.

On Tuesday night gangs ran through Leicester city centre attacking shops and confronting police.

Three people, including a 14-year-old boy, have been charged and another youth arrested after CCTV pictures of suspects were released.

Nearly 60 people have been arrested in total and nine charged in connection with the disorder.

Senior officers said patrols would be maintained in towns across Leicestershire and Rutland to reassure the public.

Ch Supt Rob Nixon said: "I would like to thank the public... for their help and support.

"On Friday night high visibility policing will continue throughout the city and county into the weekend, but I would like to stress that it is once again business as usual in the city."
