Police have made further arrests over recent disorder in Leicester city centre.

The total number of arrests now stands at 78, with 43 charged, after trouble broke out on Tuesday night.

Gangs ran through the city centre attacking shops and confronting police. Two Age UK ambulances were set on fire, one of which was completely destroyed.

High visibility patrols continued on Saturday night but no major incidents were reported.

Officers said the Summer Sundae music festival in the city ran smoothly on Saturday.

Ch Supt Rob Nixon has said shoppers and revellers should not avoid the city centre.

"My words of advice are there are so many police officers who will be on duty in and around both the city and the county, so go and enjoy yourself," he said.
