Man, 33, dies and three children injured in road crash

A Peterborough man has died and three children were injured in a road accident that closed a Rutland road for several hours.

Yasar Mushtaq, 33, died at the scene after his car collided with two lorries on the A47 near the village of Morcott in Rutland on Thursday afternoon.

One of the children is in critical condition at Birmingham Children's Hospital and another is stable at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

Neither of the lorry drivers was hurt.

The third child was taken to Peterborough Hospital and released after treatment.

Police investigating the accident want to hear from witnesses.

Leicestershire police spokesman Detective Constable David Sharpe said: "I would urge anyone who was travelling along this stretch of road to contact me if they witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles beforehand. The smallest detail could help with our enquiries."
