Intruders injure woman in Loughborough home

A woman has been seriously injured by burglars in a "horrifying attack" at her home in Leicestershire.

She disturbed two men in her garden at the house on Cotton Way, Loughborough, just before 11:00 BST on Monday.

Officers said the victim was assaulted with a sharp object but would not provide further details.

Appealing for any witnesses, police said the attack was made more disturbing as her two young children were in the the house at the time.

The woman, who is in her 40s, is currently being treated in hospital.

Det Sgt David Bacon, from Loughborough CID, said: "This was a horrifying attack on this woman in her own garden made even more distressing that her two young children were in the house at the time.

"Thankfully incidents like this are rare but officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area and speaking to local residents to answer any concerns they may have."

He added police were keen to speak to the owner of a blue Ford Escort type-van with white writing on it seen parked in Cotton Way on Monday morning.
