Warning over Leicester mobile phone thefts

A series of thefts of mobile phones from people in Leicester has prompted a warning from police.

Officers said that during the last week 24 mobile phones had been stolen in the city, many of which had been in use or on view.

The devices were attractive to criminals as they were small but of high value, police said.

They added that owners should be aware of their surroundings and use phones late at night with caution.

Det Ch Insp Chris Baker said: "If you are in any doubt, stop using your device and put it in an inside pocket or zipped bag.

"We would also like to know any information members of the public have about what happens to the phones after they have been stolen."
