Hinckley wardens to issue on-the-spot £80 litter fines

A Leicestershire council is introducing on-the-spot fines for people who drop litter in the streets.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council will issue the £80 fines right away instead of giving an initial warning.

Neighbourhood wardens are handing out the fines in Hinckley in a bid to "keep the town clean... and attract more visitors", a council spokesman said.

The fines will be handed out for even small amounts of litter, including cigarette ends, the council said.

Anti-litter warning signs will be posted in the town centre to warn people about the fines.
