CCTV camera set up in Loughborough after petition

A new CCTV camera has been installed in a Leicestershire town following a petition from residents.

The camera and a new lamppost have been installed in Rendell Street in Loughborough by Charnwood Borough Council.

Campaigners had said they were concerned about crime, drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the area.

Officers from Leicestershire Police have also agreed to meet with residents to discuss their concerns.

Councillor David Snartt, the council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "I'm happy that we have been able to take action, not only in providing the deterrent of a CCTV camera but also by working with our colleagues in Leicestershire Police to carry out high-profile patrols and reassurance visits to concerned residents."
