A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found in a Leicester street.

Police were called to Linden Street in Evington at 23:00 GMT on Sunday where they found the seriously injured victim, who died soon after.

The area is still cordoned off and officers said they were awaiting full results of a post-mortem examination.

The man has not been formally identified and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Matt Hewson said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who can help us piece together exactly how the victim came to be injured, in particular the Asian man who raised the alarm to someone in the area urging them to call the emergency services.

"I would like to appeal directly to that man and would ask him to get in touch with one of our officers as soon as possible."
