A three-year-old girl has allegedly been attacked by another pupil at a pre-school nursery in Leicestershire.

Katie Ann Guttridge was injured when another girl, aged two, was said to have attacked her at Ratby Pre-School Nursery in Ratby, Leicester.

The girl's parents reported the incident to Leicestershire Police and were advised to contact their local authority and Ofsted.

The education watchdog is now investigating the matter.

Ofsted said it was looking at whether the nursery was meeting the "legal requirements of registration" following the alleged attack.

"Ratby pre-school will remain open while we conduct our investigation," it said.

Jill Bottrill, manager of the nursery, said: "We are working closely with the local authority and parents and the pre-school."

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "The parents came into the police station on 13 December and said their three-year-old daughter had been injured at a nursery by a two-year-old child.

"But as the girl is below the age of criminal responsibility there is nothing further the police can do."

Leicestershire County Council said it had offered support to both the school and the parents following reports of an incident involving two children.
