Tweet shows rise in New Year calls to Leicestershire force

A senior police officer has said there were more than 400 calls made to Leicestershire Police after midnight on New Year's Day.

Chief Constable Simon Cole said on Twitter the force normally only got between 60 and 70 calls between 00:00 and 07:00 GMT on 1 January.

He added that all police cells were full across the county.

Mr Cole tweeted: "New Year's resolution not to drink too much and fight being quickly forgotten by some!"
