Leicestershire Police arrest 119 drink-drive motorists
Leicestershire Police have arrested 119 motorists for drinking and driving over the festive period.
The drivers were arrested between 1 December 2011 and 1 January 2012 after testing positive for excess alcohol or drugs.
It marks a fall from 2010, when 127 motorists were arrested during the same period.
Senior traffic management officer Graham Compton said there was a particular problem among young drivers.
He said 34 of the motorists arrested were under the aged of 25 years.
"It's evident that youngsters are now starting to drink and drive. This was not the case about five or six years ago," Mr Compton said.
"So we've got to start again in schools and colleges and get that message across."
