Burglars have raided six homes in a single Leicester street in one night.

The homes in Peter's Drive, off Uppingham Road, were targeted during Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday.

In most cases the burglars broke into the rear of the properties through insecure doors or windows, Leicestershire Police said.

The force said extra patrols were being conducted in the area to deter any repeat offences.

Insp Bill Knopp said: "I would like to reassure residents that this is a very unusual pattern and we are taking it very seriously.

"Officers have been out conducting house to house inquires, giving out crime prevention advice, window alarms and light timers."
