The funerals of a former police inspector and his wife and daughter are to take place in Rutland next week.

It is believed Toby Day, 37, from Melton Mowbray, attacked Samantha and Genevieve, six, before killing himself.

The killings came just days after his being sacked from the Leicestershire force in December.

The funerals are to be held in Market Overton on 9 January. The service will be attended by family and close friends of the deceased.

Mr Day was sacked from Leicestershire Constabulary after a misconduct hearing on 1 December concerning misuse of police computers.

Funds raised

The three were found with fatal injuries at their Leicestershire home on 8 December. They were taken to hospital but later died.

The couple's two older children, named locally as Kimberley, 15 and Adam, 13, were also injured but were said to be recovering well.

Officers forced their way into the semi-detached house in Robin Crescent after the 15-year-old ran into nearby Swallowdale Primary School.

More than £5,000 has been raised for the surviving teenage children.

Police have started a murder inquiry but said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

The case was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission but it later said a formal investigation would not be carried out.

An inquest, at Loughborough Coroner's Court in December, was adjourned pending further inquiries and will be resumed later.
