Robbers hit Leicester security guard with baseball bat

Two men assaulted a security guard with a baseball bat before making off with money stolen from a cash-in-transit delivery, police have said.

Officers were called to Glen Rise, in Leicester, at about 12:45 GMT after reports two men had robbed the guard.

They drove off in a dark red Renault Megane, later found abandoned at Glen Gorse Golf Club.

The security guard was not seriously injured. Police have urged any witnesses to come forward.

Det Sgt Nicole Main, from Leicestershire Police, said: "This was a nasty incident during which the security guard's helmet was cracked.

"Thankfully he wasn't injured but the results could have been much worse.

"I would like to personally urge anyone with information about the incident or those responsible to call us immediately."

A second vehicle is also believed to have been involved in the robbery.

A Black Renault Megane was recovered in the Birstall area of Leicester later on Monday.
