Fire and smoke damaged cars at Saab Leicester The fire from one car spread to other vehicles in the rear workshop of the Leicester car showroom

Several vehicles have been damaged during a fire at a car showroom in Leicester city centre.

More than 20 firefighters from five crews tackled a blaze in the rear workshop of Bond Street Saab on Vaughan Way from about 06:10 GMT.

No-one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Part of the inner ring road, which was closed anti-clockwise between St Margaret's Way and Highcross Street junctions, has now reopened.

Watch manager Simon Kellock, from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, said a passerby raised the alarm to the fire on the ground floor of the three-storey building.

"When we arrived the fire was in the car workshop and the showroom was filled with smoke," he said. "The fire was contained within an hour.

"We don't know yet how the fire started but there was no malicious involvement, so it would appear at the moment.

"Investigating officers have arrived and we will know more later."
