A major Leicester concert and event venue is again looking for a new manager.

The 2,000-seat De Montfort Hall, which is owned by the city council, is advertising the role with a salary of up to £59,000.

The same job was marketed last year, with a salary £14,000 lower, but the post was not filled.

Previous manager Richard Haswell left the job in May last year having been suspended on full pay for 19 months.

A spokesman for the city council said a candidate had been offered the job last year but had turned it down.

As a consequence the post had to carry a salary at the commercial rate, they added.

De Montfort Hall was built in 1913 and has hosted acts like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Kasabian.

In 2009 the venue reported an overspend of more than £1.4m but the city council said it had since had two "really good years".
