An appeal to trace the movements of a man killed in a hit and run crash in Leicestershire has been made by police.

Simon Ware, 44, from Broughton Astley, was fatally injured on 19 December on Ashby Road, Bitteswell. A van involved was traced but a car left the scene.

The pedestrian was seen at about 15:30 GMT in Lutterworth and again in Bitteswell shortly before the incident.

Officers said they wanted to speak to anyone who saw him, or knew how he travelled, between these times.

Det Con Ady Keeble said: "He was wearing a dark three-quarter length overcoat at the time and we would ask anyone who recognises Mr Ware's picture or saw someone wearing a similar coat in the area on Monday December 19 to contact us.

"It is vitally important that we gather as much information as possible to assist with the investigation."
