Masked gang raids Leicester jewellery shop

A gang armed with baseball bats has raided a jewellers in Leicester.

Four masked offenders entered Ram Jewellers in Belgrave Road soon after 18:00 GMT, smashed display cabinets and took jewellery.

They fled the scene in a silver Peugeot 306, which was later found abandoned in Burfield Street, near Cossington Street recreation ground.

Police said no one was injured in the robbery but the owners were left badly shaken.

The scene is currently cordoned off whilst forensic examinations take place.

Officers said the amount of jewellery taken had not yet been confirmed. They also appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
