Leicester security guard robbery and van driver attack

A security guard has been robbed and a van driver attacked by a gang in Leicester.

At about 09:22 GMT in Queens Road, a man grabbed a cash box from the guard and fled in a dark blue Audi.

Shortly afterwards in Gartree Road, a white Mercedes van was stopped by the occupants of the Audi. The van driver was assaulted and his vehicle taken.

Neither victim was badly injured and police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Con Kristine Howe said: "This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim and members of the public who were around the area at the time.

"We would appeal to anyone who saw any part of the incident either in Queens Road or Gartree Road to contact us. We would also urge anyone who has seen the white van since 9.30am this morning either being parked or driven to contact us immediately."

The van's registration number is SO53 OOB.
