Police probe Leicester hammer robbery link

Police in Leicester are trying to establish if two robberies at bookmakers where the robber was armed with a hammer, are linked.

Two men went into the William Hill bookmakers on Charles Street at about 19:45 GMT on Thursday, armed with a hammer and escaped with takings.

At about 11:00 GMT on Friday, a man went into Ladbrokes on Melton Road, also carrying a hammer and stole cash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leicestershire Police.

'Think back'

Det Sgt John Farndon said that before the second robbery, a man went into Ladbrokes on Hinckley Road at about 10:20 GMT on Friday, wearing a black balaclava and scarf.

He opened the door, looked around and left.

Mr Farndon said: "We are currently in the early stages of our inquiries and are looking into the possibility that these incidents were linked.

"I would ask anyone who was in the areas where they happened at the times in questions, to please think back.

"You may only have a small piece of information but that could really help with our inquiries."
