Third Leicester bookmakers targeted by hammer robbers

Police in Leicester believe two men armed with hammers, have struck again in a raid on a third bookmakers shop.

At about 19:00 GMT on Saturday, two men went into the Mark Jarvis bookmakers on Melbourne Road, threatened a member of staff and escaped with cash.

The shop worker suffered minor head injuries in the latest robbery, Leicestershire Police said.

Two similar robberies were carried out on 23 and 24 February from bookmakers on Charles Street and Melton Road.

'Shocking' incidents

Det Sgt Phil Taylor said: "This is now the third incident of this nature and we are looking at the possibility that all three are linked.

"Thankfully no-one has been seriously injured in any of the robberies but obviously it is still upsetting and shocking for those involved."

Det Sgt Taylor added all officers in Leicester were being briefed about the robberies and would be going out to speak to bookmakers in the city to warn them and offer safety advice.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact Leicestershire Police.
